Montage Big Sky has appointed Christian Maeder as its new general manager, a role that places him in charge of all operational areas at the Montana resort. The promotion follows a two-year stint as hotel manager at the property, where he led service refinement efforts and introduced several food and beverage initiatives. Maeder assumes the position immediately.

The appointment continues Maeder’s long relationship with Montage International. Before joining the Big Sky team in 2023, Maeder served as hotel manager at Montage Laguna Beach, where he supported day-to-day operations during the pandemic recovery. His earlier career includes senior leadership positions across The Maybourne Beverly Hills, Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara, The Setai Miami Beach, and Four Seasons Hotel New York. He also brings experience from Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, Claridge’s in London, and The Peninsula New York.

Montage Big Sky opened in 2021 as the brand’s first mountain resort, set within the Spanish Peaks enclave with direct access to skiing, hiking, and year-round outdoor activities. The 150-key property includes 39 residences, multiple dining venues, a large spa and wellness facility, and extensive event space. Maeder’s familiarity with the resort’s layout, guest mix, and seasonal operations—particularly its complex winter and summer demand cycles—has been a core part of his remit since joining the hotel.

Born in Switzerland, Maeder graduated from the Swiss Hotel Management School Lucerne and later completed financial management studies at Cornell University. His international background is reflected in a resume that spans major urban and resort markets, from London and New York to Las Vegas, Miami, and Southern California.

In Big Sky, his focus has included strengthening service programs and refining the resort’s management approach. During his time as hotel manager at Montage Big Sky, he “played a pivotal role in advancing the resort’s service and management philosophy, introducing new food and beverage initiatives, and elevating the overall guest experience.” The transition to general manager formalizes his leadership across departments as the property moves into its next operational phase.

Montage International currently operates hotels and resorts in destinations including Laguna Beach, Deer Valley, Los Cabos, and Palmetto Bluff, with additional projects under development. Maeder’s appointment marks one of the brand’s senior leadership moves going into 2026.
