Nobu Hospitality is expanding its footprint in Portugal with plans for a new luxury resort in the Eastern Algarve, adding a hotel, signature restaurant, and branded residences to the award-winning Monte Rei resort.
Announced today, the development will be Nobu’s second destination in Portugal and will serve as the centerpiece of a larger investment by real estate investment manager Norfin. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the Nobu Hotel scheduled to open in 2029.
Located on more than 1,000 acres in Portugal’s quieter Eastern Algarve, Monte Rei is best known for its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, which has consistently ranked among the country’s top golf experiences. The new Nobu Hotel will feature 100 guestrooms and suites, along with the brand’s signature restaurant, which has become a major draw at Nobu properties worldwide. The project will also include approximately 21,000 square meters of Nobu-branded villas and residences, giving owners access to the brand’s hospitality services while expanding Monte Rei’s residential offering.
The development is part of a broader master plan for the resort that will also introduce new leisure amenities and, eventually, a beach club, creating a more comprehensive year-round destination for both visitors and homeowners.

Design will be led by DSA Architects and Rockwell Group, Nobu’s longtime design partner responsible for many of the brand’s hotels and restaurants worldwide. The teams will work together to blend Nobu’s minimalist aesthetic with the natural landscape and character of the Eastern Algarve.
“Monte Rei offers a rare combination of natural beauty, privacy and an established reputation for exceptional golf and residential living,” said Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality. “Together with Norfin, we have the opportunity to create a distinctive Nobu destination that feels deeply connected to the Eastern Algarve while delivering the hospitality, dining, design and service for which the brand is known around the world.”
For luxury advisors, the project adds another high-end option in a region that continues to attract affluent travelers looking beyond the Algarve’s better-known western resorts. With branded residences, championship golf and Nobu’s global following, the development is positioned to appeal to both leisure guests and second-home buyers seeking a more secluded luxury experience on Portugal’s southern coast.
